This goodbye was never meant to be
But life has gone and changed;
I cannot stay with you now my love
From this day forward we're estranged.

Goodbye seems such a final word
With a very clear intent;
Of never setting eyes on you
Which ever way you went.

So the time has come
To say that final word;
As I can't bring myself to stay
After all the things I've heard.

To all my family and friends
This may well be the "Goodbye";
As I'm off around the world
And there they say G'day!

Come and visit anytime
Although you don't get far;
This may well be the signal now
Or it will be the final Ta-Ra!

I've got to leave you, I've got to go
I can't stand this anymore;
I don't know where our love went
I don't know anything for sure.

Except that this won't get any better
No matter what we try;
I am so very sorry you know
And baby-please don't cry!

If tears could mend our broken hearts
We would be tickety-boo!
We would love and laugh forever
But you and I both know that's not true.
