Groundhog Day Poems

Peeking out of his burrow
Just woken up you see;
It all depends on the weather
On how things are going to be.
Does he stay or does he go
That is the question of the day;
Is it still wintertime
Or has it gone away.
The crops and harvest will have to wait
Until that weather change;
This festival in February
Is very, very strange.

As the light grows longer
The cold grows stronger;
If Candlemas be fair and bright
Winter will have another flight.
If Candlemas be cloud and rain
Winter will be gone and not come again;
A farmer should on Candlemas day
Have half his corn and half his hay.
On Candlemas day if thorns hang a drop
You can be sure of a good pea crop.

Many a good time to be had
Whilst watching this event;
Seeing old friends and a drink or two
Whilst waiting for what is meant.
He's poked his head out or has he not
He's not sure what to do;
He's probably worried about all of us
I would be-wouldn't you?

Groundhog Day Poems

All around the world right now
This story does unfold;
It started long ago
If the truth were really told.
It livens up the winter months
Something to look forward too;
As long dark winter nights get boring
I think so- don't you?
The film brought it to the fore
Although a different tale;
As many of us in the west
Use March 21st as through the year we sail.
