Little did you know that
In just a few short weeks;
This creation would appear
With rosy little cheeks.

The lungs are almighty
Full of strength and cries;
The nappies and the lack of sleep
This only multiplies.

But you look into those eyes
Behold another world;
Parents besottedness
Their darling little girl.

The cutest little bundle
Now lives in a corner of your home;
The rest is full of new appliances
That before you've never known.

How can someone so small
Take over your whole life;
Well let me tell you
They can cut you like a knife.

A look or a cry even a sigh
Makes you jump up and run to them;
They very soon realise that this is good
And call you no matter where or when.

You wouldn't have it any other way
Unimaginable without them being here;
In a very short time it takes to bond
They have become Oh so very dear!

The stork has delivered a bundle of joy
We'd like to meet your new baby boy!
It seemed like forever, but the waiting is done,
You proudly announce the birth of your son

Finally at last
Out popped your little head;
We thought we'd got the dates wrong
But you waited till we wed.

So you're pretty clever
You knew more than both of us;
As marriage was not an option
Till you started all the fuss.

You've made our little family
Complete and happy now;
So welcome our little darling
See everyone and take a bow!

They say blue for a boy and pink for a girl
I'm not sure that is true;
What if she/he doesn't suit that shade

Just what are we to do?

Individuality is the game
I'm sure we'll find a way;
If Granny get's the punk stuff out
The wearing we'll delay.

Going for Great though Grandma will be
So we'll be able to tell her;
No knitted bonnets this time round
We'll just have to try and deter

Little scrunched up fingers and toes
Thinking "Wouldn't I just love one of those";
The mothering instinct is within
All of us get it I suppose.

Can I watch and share with love
Your wondrous little beauty;
I will be an adopted aunt
It won't feel like a duty.

I can buy bits and bobs
And be there for her;
To talk but mostly listen
For support & no wrath incur
